What can be better than to go home to a standing room only crowd, to have the band hotter than
a pistol, and to be singing to some of the finest people in the world?
Boomtown, in Harvey, Louisiana (in the New Orleans area), was that place this past Saturday night.
From the very first note, the crowd was ready. My wife Roxanne was with me. Rhonda Danos, my
booking manager, was there. There were family members there whom I hadn't seen in awhile...what a
treat that was. It was a lively crowd.
And there were the Red Hatters!
The Red Hatters were such a fun part of the audience, and I was glad so many were there from
Louisiana, since I sang several brand new songs, including one about my native state. (We're planning
to make the songs available; check back for more information about that and a DVD).
I had so much fun singing to such a great
crowd!
People drove in from all over the South. It
was great to meet people from Alabama,
Florida, Texas, and more.
One special highlight was Bobby Morris and
his lovely wife Shirley who drove over from
Florida to induct me into the Southern
Entertainment Legends Hall of Fame!
After the show and standing ovations (bless you!), one of the band
members asked the audience to stay for the special presentation.
No one left. What an honor and a humbling experience to join some
of the greatest legends of the Southland, from Elvis to Jerry Lee
Lewis, Pat Boone, Loretta Lynn, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Wanda
Jackson, Conway Twitty and so many more. Sometimes I still have to
pinch myself, especially during moments like these, to think that a
kid from Louisiana could be doing what I always wanted to do,
having the time of my life and receiving honors like this one.
Sometimes it really does feel like it is "Just a Dream."
Photos of the Hall of Fame induction are on the way, so look for
them in the next few days.
I want to thank the great people who made my home-going concert
at Boomtown so very special. For those who attended, and those
who weren't able to make it, I have some good news. We are making
a previously unplanned return to Boomtown on December 2 at
6 PM. You've gotta be there!
We have lots of exciting things in store for you as we gear up for the 50th Anniversary of "Just a
Dream," my first gold record from 1958. I can't wait to share more about it, and will do so in upcoming
jottings in my online journal.
Until I see you on the road...God bless,

This wild and wonderful Red Hat Society Chapter is called the "ANTIQUE LITTLE GIRLS" of Galliano, Louisiana. Jeanette Brunet is the Queen of the Chapter, (AKA Queen Caffeine!)
Jeanette is the one with the red crown emblem on her shirt pocket and crown pin on her hat, standing behind me.
Unforgettable ladies, all!
